Installing & Enabling the Smart Support Widget
This guide explains how to install the Smart Support Widget plugin, enable it, and ensure that it appears correctly on your website. It covers all required steps, settings, and conditions necessary for the widget to function.
1. Plugin Installation
Step 1: Upload the Plugin
- Open WordPress Dashboard
- Go to Plugins → Add New
- Click the Upload Plugin button
- Select
smart-support-widget.zip - Click Install Now
Uploading the .zip file ensures WordPress extracts and installs all required files for the widget to run.
Step 2: Activate the Plugin
After installation:
- Click Activate Plugin, OR
- Go to Plugins → Installed Plugins and activate manually
Activation registers the widget with WordPress and makes the settings page available under Smart Support.
2. Requirements
Before enabling the widget, ensure the following:
| Requirement | Why It’s Needed |
|---|---|
| WordPress 5.0+ | Ensures compatibility with UI components |
| PHP 7.4+ | Required for backend operations |
| Smart Support Core Plugin | Provides ticket features & API |
| Instant Knowledge Base Plugin | Required for Knowledge base and Documentation Search |
If any requirement is missing, the widget may not function or may not appear.
3. Enabling the Widget
To Enable Smart Widget go to:
Smart Support → Settings → Widget
Turn the switch ON to activate the front-end floating widget.
This controls the global visibility. Even if everything else is configured correctly, the widget will not appear unless this toggle is enabled.
4. Choosing Widget Position
Four positions are available:
| Position | Description |
|---|---|
| Bottom Right | Default placement; does not obstruct content; best for most themes. |
| Bottom Left | Use if another widget occupies the right corner (e.g., chat widget). |
| Top Right | Ideal for websites with fixed bottom navigation bars. |
| Top Left | Least common; use when other positions conflict with UI elements. |
5. After Enabling
Once activated:
- A floating button appears on your website
- Clicking the button opens the support panel
If you don’t see the widget:
- Re-check Display Rules
- Re-check Visibility (guest/logged-in)
- Clear caching plugins
- Ensure you’re viewing a page where it is allowed to appear
